Fourteenth Ice Cream Social, First Bounce House
August 17, 2015
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in mid-August than eating ice cream in the park with one’s neighbors? Well, perhaps bouncing in a bright red and yellow castle complete with slide might top that— or at least enhance the experience.
Epworthies, their friends and neighbors— about double the number we’ve hosted in past years— consumed nearly ten gallons of ice cream and all the toppings that could be crowded onto the table or poured, spooned or sprinkled over the ice cream. Carolyn Ryan, who coordinated the event, said that at the very, very end she ran out of ice cream, so the final four people put their toppings on bowls filled with whipped cream.
It was a delight to meet Epworthies’ extended families, catch up on the latest news from neighbors— some of whom we hadn’t visited with since last year’s social, and to meet new neighbors and friends, including a family from Bulgaria and the mother of five who was due to give birth to her sixth child that day!
As Ryan said, “The love of God was pouring out of the fudge sauce.”
If you missed it this year, put the middle Sunday of August on your calendar for 2016 and start now looking forward to a great time.
