Ash Wednesday Begins Lenten Journey
February 18, 2015
As the ancient lenten hymn by Gregory the Great bids us:
Now let us all with one accord,
in company with ages past,
keep vigil with our heavenly Lord
in his temptation and his fast.
Epworthies will gather tonight at 7:00 for the traditional Ash Wednesday liturgy of ashing and Holy Eucharist.
As we journey together through Lent with Lenten Soup Suppers at 6:00, followed by Evening Prayers every Tuesday evening and Lenten Evening Prayers every Thursday at 7:00, family readings from our meditation book "Not by Bread Alone",
and Holy Communion at 10:00 every Sunday followed by followed by moderated discussion, we will pray with the hymn writer:
So let this consecrated time
Bring forth its fruit abundantly.
Stones in place of water in the font remind us of Christ's forty days of fasting in the desert. Veiled crosses and chalice remind us of His three days in the tomb.
Therefore, we pray you, Christ, forgive;
so when our wanderings here shall cease,
we may with you forever live,
in love and unity and peace.
