Glad Tidings of Great Joy, Christmas Eve at Epworth
December 26, 2014
"The snow lay on the ground. . .Venit adoremus Dominum. . ." Cantors sang on Christmas Eve at Epworth Chapel on the Green as worshippers gathered during a surprise heavy snow storm for an exceptionally warm and beautiful service of Holy Communion to welcome the Nativity of our Lord.
"O God, You have caused this holy night to shine with the brightness of the true Light: Grant that we, who have known the mystery of that Light on earth, may also enjoy him perfectly in heaven..." We prayed.
Following the traditional Gospel reading from Luke 2 preached a sermon declaring God's Hope and Love to all people in the mist of dark and despair. Click here to listen.
"Sleep, Holy Child," the cantors sang, " Shine, fragile life, this starry night. . . For none on earth can overcome the light in you that comes from God."
The service ended with the recessional hymn "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear". And we were charged to "Go forth in peace, and in the joy that God is with us."
Thanks be to God.
Wishing a joyous and blessed Christmastide to all.
